Thematic Coordinator at the Austrian Institute of Technology
Hans-Martin Neumann is Thematic Coordinator at the Austrian Institute of Technology and leads a team of 17 researchers working in the research field of Urban and Regional Transformation. Since 2017, he is Deputy Coordinator of the EERA Joint Program Smart Cities. From the start he has been actively involved in the Strategic Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP SCC) and in the SET-Plan Temporary Working Group 3.2 “Smart Cities and Communities), which has drafted an implementation plan for plus energy districts. As a project manager and work package leader, Hans-Martin Neumann is involved in several Smart City projects in Europe and Asia. These include the Smart City Light House projects SMARTER TOGETHER and RUGGEDISED, in which he and his team are responsible for scientific monitoring and the development of the evaluation methodology, the CITYKEYS project on smart city performance measurement, and both H2020 projects on the EU-CHINA collaboration on Sustainable Urbanisation URBAN-EU-CHINA and TRANSURBAN-EU-CHINA. In Austria, he has been involved in several Smart City projects with Vienna and Salzburg. Hans-Martin Neumann holds a degree in Urban and Regional Planning from TU Berlin, a project management certificate from IPMA and is a chartered urban planner.
